Willowdale Community Legal Services

is hiring a Legal Caseworker

Willowdale Community Legal Services (WCLS) is a general service community legal clinic funded by Legal Aid Ontario (LAO). WCLS serves low-income members of our community within the areas of poverty law that we practice.  We commit to service that is inclusive, equitable, fair and free from discrimination, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, sex, sexual orientation and immigration status. 

 

WCLS is seeking a Legal Caseworker (lawyer or paralegal) who will practice in one or more of the clinic areas of law such as social assistance and income maintenance.  This position provides legal services (including summary advice, brief services such as document preparation, and representation at tribunals and boards) to low-income members residing within the catchment area of our legal clinic. The position involves engaging with community members, organizations and agencies that assist members of our community.

 

The duties of the position will be carried out through a combination of office and remote work. The position requires some travel within Toronto (occasional hearings and client home visits) and may require work to be performed outside of normal 8:30am to 4:30pm office hours.

 

This is a contract position for 17 months with a start date in late March 2026.

 

Qualifications:

  • Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario

  • Familiarity with legal clinic areas of law, in particular social assistance

  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills

  • Superior communication skills, including with people from diverse identities

  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team

  • Strong understanding of the barriers faced by members of our community

  • Assets include:

    • Prior experience in a community legal clinic

    • Fluency in a second language

 

Compensation:

$70,000 – 90,000/ year, dependent upon years of experience.
