Old Age Security (OAS) & Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS)

WCLS provides services to people who have been denied benefits available from the federal and provincial governments for senior citizens and older adults.  These benefits include OAS (for people aged 65 years and older who reside and have resided in Canada), GIS (for low-income seniors aged 65 or older), Allowance (for spouses of GIS recipients aged 60 or older), and the Allowance for the Survivor (for low-income persons aged 60 to 64 years old whose spouse is deceased).  WCLS offers information, advice, and sometimes representation on appeals to the Social Security Tribunal.

Examples of Old Age Security issues we may help with:

  • Your application for benefits was denied

  • You are not receiving maximum benefits because you were not “resident” in Canada for a period of time

  • You have been asked to provide documents to which you do not have access

We do not distribute or complete OAS or GIS applications.  You can obtain a copy of the applications from Service Canada in person or online.
